Needs on the ground: Support services response to the war on Ukraine
Since the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, 100,000s of persons with disabilities have relocated to other European countries; primarily in the countries bordering it. 100,000s more still live in Ukraine, many in dangerous situations and with significant difficulties in moving to safer areas.
NGOs, people and public authorities have been actively working to providing housing and support to persons with disabilities from Ukraine and their families. Yet this is all very new and there is very little sharing of experiences over how this can be done, how to organize the transport, how to cooperate between NGOs and authorities, how to deal with legal issues, and many other issues.
Following the invasion, EASPD has set-up 6 Temporary Regional Offices in 6 countries to better understand the issues on the ground; develop a cross-country response to the hosting of refugees with disabilities from Ukraine as well as raise awareness at local, national and European level.
On 18th July, EASPD will host a webinar to:
- Present an update on the organisation’s work on Ukraine.
- Introduce the representatives of their TRO’s in Ukraine, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Hungary, Moldova and the Netherlands.
- Find out more about the current challenges on the ground.
