We must take concrete steps to transform services into person-centered models that empower individuals, while positioning service providers as key drivers of this shift toward a human rights-based approach.

EASPD and EPR Webinar: Success factors for transitions from school or training to employment for young people with disabilities

This webinar, co-hosted with EPR on December 7th, will look at good practices and success factors of transitions for young persons with disabilities from school or training to employment.

Work is the cornerstone of an independent life, but not all citizens are afforded equal access to the labour market. Young people with disabilities (YPWD) face many barriers when dealing with the transition from school, vocational education and training (VET), or inactivity, to employment. These barriers expose this vulnerable group to an increased risk of falling into poverty – a risk made even more real by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Over the past few months, both EASPD and EPR have been working to tackle this problem, collecting good practices on the access of YPWD to the labour market.

Through EASPD's Lighthouse Network initiative, our Member Forum on Education are currently developing a manual looking at how services can support persons with disabilities at key transition phases during their lives namely: secondary school into employment. This manual will include a number of promising practices on how to support the transition from school to education, while EPR works on their report on transition programmes and services – from school or VET into employment – for YPWD.

The key finding from these studies will be discussed in a webinar on Transitions from School or Training to Employment for Young People with Disabilities – Good practices and success factors on 7th December 2022.

Practical details

The webinar will take place on 7th December 2022, 14:00 - 16:00 CET.

This webinar is free and open to the public. You can register here by 5th December 2022, 14:00. The link to join the Zoom meeting will be communicated to the participants in the afternoon of 5th December 2022.
