Towards Human-rights based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services across Europe
Description:
EASPD's priorities for 2022-2025 focus on inclusivity and equity in disability service provision, with emphasis on mental health and psychosocial support. Individuals with mental health and psychosocial disabilities, combined with intersectional identities, face increased challenges. Existing mental health services are strained and fail to meet the needs of the general population, with people with disabilities reporting unmet medical needs at a significantly higher rate. Transitioning to a human rights-based approach, mental health services are evolving to be community-oriented and person-centred, aiming to empower individuals in their recovery journey. However, significant gaps persist in service quality, accessibility, acceptability and availability. Data on mental health and psychosocial support within the disability context remain scarce, prompting EASPD's research efforts to address the critical situation. This report outlines key findings, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive and inclusive mental health support services.
