EMBRACE project partners are finalising the project's deliverables, which were presented in Tirana.

The Erasmus+ project EMBRACE – which aims to foster the inclusion of children with intellectual disabilities in Early Childhood Education and Care settings – is coming to a close, and is in its final stages of implementation.

On 9th June, at the EASPD Conference on family-centred Early Childhood Intervention, a workshop was dedicated to the transition from Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) to  Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC). During this workshop, participants could learn more about the EMBRACE project, which was presented by Emphasys Center’s partners.

In the past few weeks, EASPD has held 3 meetings with ECEC staff from different schools in Brussels to present the project and results, focusing on testing the practices included in the ‘Fostering a Culture of Inclusion’ Handbook and the e-Learning course.

The Handbook is a collection of over 96 good practices from 5 partner countries (Belgium, Cyprus, Greece, Poland, and North Macedonia) that aims to engage children, parents, ECEC staff, and the community in the promotion of a culture of inclusion.

The e-Learning course aims to strengthen the attitudes, knowledge, values, and skills of ECEC to ensure that ECEC settings can meet the needs of children with intellectual disabilities. It contains 4 modules with learning materials and accompanying assessments to test the knowledge acquired. The course is still in its trial phase, but is available online for wider testing.

What happened at the workshop in Tirana?

The presentation focused on the project’s objectives, and on the 4 key project’s results:

During the workshop, participants also learned about inclusion of children with disabilities in ECEC in Georgia, as well as trainings available for teachers in Albania. You can go to our conference webpage and search "Workshop 10" to see the relevant presentations.

In the next few months, project partners will finalise all the results, including the awareness-raising toolkit. EMBRACE will end its journey with their closing conference in Brussels on 1st December 2023.
