The countries of Moldova, Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Ukraine, Georgia, and Turkey are currently on the path towards European Union membership. As part of this journey, each country’s structural reform initiatives undergo thorough review within the EU Enlargement Package framework to ensure they are in line with EU human rights benchmarks, including those for the rights of persons with disabilities.

The accession process offers a unique opportunity for disability service providers to work closely with their national governments to drive forward reforms, such as deinstitutionalisation efforts. In this context, through this event EASPD together with Keystone Moldova will:

  • Explore how the EU enlargement process can advance the development of person-centred and human rights based support services.
  • Highlight the progress and unique challenges faced by Moldova in transitioning from institutional care to community-based services.
  • Discuss strategies for strengthening advocacy and collaboration during the pre-accession negotiations to ensure sustainable and rights-based reforms.

This is a hybrid event, participants will be able to join online via Zoom or in person.

Date: 26 November 2024, 08:30 - 14:00

Location: Keystone events, Albisoara, 42/1, of. 2 Chișinău, Republic  of  Moldova
