Shaping accessible futures in Nicosia, Cyprus

EASPD attended AccessibleEU and AAATE events held in Nicosia, Cyrpus, where accessibility and digital innovation took centre stage.

On 9 September, we wrapped up the last European event of the year for the AccessibleEU project, organised in collaboration with the European University of Cyprus in Nicosia and AAATE. The event focused on the role of higher education, vocational training, and assistive technologies in promoting accessibility.

But the week didn’t stop there!

On 10 September, the 8th International Conference of AAATE officially began in Nicosia, bringing together more than 350 delegates from 43 countries. Participants shared knowledge, exchanged experiences, and explored the many dimensions of the broad and inspiring field of assistive technology. A highlight was the keynote speech by Kamil Goungor, Policy and Movement Support Officer at European Network on Independent Living. He underlined that persons with disabilities are already major consumers of digital technology.

During the Conference, EASPD also had the privilege of contributing to the policy session on “Empowering care and support ecosystems in the digital era”. We presented key European initiatives that strengthen long-term care systems through knowledge and skills development, as well as insights from research conducted in the framework of the Care4Skills project.
