Removing barriers at work with assistive technologies

On 13 May, the DIGIT-ABLE project held a training session in Porto. Organised in the framework of the EASPD International Conference Leading Change in Disability Services and led by Lichtwerk and EASPD, the training explored how assistive technologies can support more inclusive workplaces by reducing physical, cognitive, and psychosocial barriers.
Participants discussed how digital tools can enhance productivity, improve the quality of work, and support the well-being of employees with disabilities, while also strengthening collaboration and accessibility across organisations.
The training introduced a structured framework designed to help organisations move from ambition to the practical adoption of inclusive technologies and practices. Discussions highlighted the importance of combining assistive technologies with organisational change, staff training, and the active involvement of people with disabilities in the design and implementation process.
The session was followed by a peer-learning session on the first day of the EASPD Conference, on 14 May. Participants had the opportunity to further exchange experiences and reflect on practical approaches to digital inclusion in employment and disability services. It also created space to consider how digitalisation can enhance person-centred support, improve staff workflows, and strengthen organisational impact across disability and social service provision.
