Making cultural events truly inclusive

Cultural events bring people together, celebrate diversity, and create shared experiences. However, accessibility remains a significant challenge for individuals with disabilities, especially those with sensory impairments.
The Revelland project aims to create a more accessible experience of live music performances for people with intellectual disabilities and hearing impairments, by training 6 bands from different European countries to create multisensory performances. In the framework of the project, EASPD has developed a comprehensive booklet on Organising Cultural Events for All.
This publication is meant to be a practical guide, and it explores:
- The importance of inclusion from a human rights and audience engagement perspective.
- Key strategies, such as universal design and reasonable accommodations, to ensure accessibility.
- Inspiring practices from festivals and venues that successfully integrate multisensory experiences and assistive technologies.
- The costs and benefits of organising inclusive events, which demonstrate that accessibility is not just ethical, it’s a smart investment.
The booklet is a must-read for event organisers, cultural institutions, and policymakers committed to ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, can fully participate in cultural experiences.
