On October 16, the COM-IN project held its final international event as part of EASPD and The Net’s Conference in Athens, Greece. It was the culmination of a number of national-level events from the countries represented in the consortium, including Greece, Spain, and France.

COM-IN is a European project aimed promote communicative development in children and adolescents with intellectual developmental disabilities to support their inclusion. The event aimed to share the materials and resources developed through the project with professionals who work directly with persons with disabilities, as well as with those in services that could benefit from increased awareness of the communication needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Service providers from across Europe and beyond first came together for a networking lunch, during which they had the opportunity to participate in interactive activities, showcasing how different factors are crucial to communication. Project partners from the University of Reims – Champagne, The University of Liege, Tukena Foundation Finland, Fundación Campus Arnau d’Escala Catalonia, Spain, and EASPD then showcased the guides, module training, and MOOC developed as part of the project.

The event was successful in:

  • Showcasing the outputs developed by the project
  • Fostering connections between participants, partners and their respective organisations
  • Sharing the potential next steps or elaborations on the project

All the COM-IN materials, including the COM-IN Massive Open Online Training Course (MOOC), will be available on the EASPD Knowledge in November 2024.
