Beyond Digits project's first event explores financial literacy and neurodiversity

On April 4, Beyond Digits hosted its first multiplier event to present the results of the research and discuss next steps.

On Friday 4 April, the first multiplier event of Erasmus+ project Beyond Digits took place. The project's mission is promoting inclusive, accessible, and impactful financial education for all. The event was co-hosted by Ploes and Omega Technology and addressed to professionals, stakeholders, and members of the local community about financial literacy in vulnerable populations.

After the introduction to the project, the results of the research were presented. This research explored the current state of financial literacy among neurodivergent individuals who use support services, as well as the experiences and challenges faced by educators and professionals working with them. The findings revealed that neurodivergent individuals often experience lower levels of financial literacy, both when compared to the general population and relative to their actual learning potential. The research also uncovered a critical gap in targeted educational resources that are tailored to the diverse learning styles of neurodivergent people. Moreover, professionals in the field reported limited access to tools and training that would support them in delivering effective financial education.

As Konstantina Kyrimi emphasised: “Neurodivergent individuals can and should be trained in financial literacy, as it offers multiple benefits, including autonomy, social inclusion, improved quality of life, and relief for caregivers. Achieving this goal requires a multifaceted support system that includes service users, their families, and educators. Finally, we must actively challenge the stigma and the misconception that neurodivergent individuals are incapable of or do not need this kind of knowledge.”

The event concluded with a vibrant discussion, underlining the importance of continued collaboration between professionals, families, and community stakeholders. With promising tools underway and growing momentum, the next project results will address the gaps identified and develop educational materials accordingly.
