EASPD Knowledge Café: The Role of Storytelling in Early Childhood Intervention
Growing up, a storybook meant entertainment for us. With great excitement we would wait for our parents or grandparents to read us a story right before bedtime. As children we did not realise that through storytelling we actually learnt many life lessons. In fact, it is an extremely effective tool to teach children small tasks in their daily routines.
In Early Childhood Intervention (ECI), storytelling plays an important role in addressing developmental needs across various domains, including language, social skills, emotional regulation, and cognitive skills. Through stories, parents and caregivers learn important insights and strategies, creating a supportive ecosystem for children to overcome fears and barriers. Moreover, storytelling serves as a powerful advocacy tool, reducing stigma and promoting inclusivity within communities.
With this in mind, the EASPD Knowledge and Innovation Team is hosting a Knowledge Café on the role of storytelling in early childhood intervention. The event will bring together experts on ECI from the EarlyBrain project to discuss how storytelling can positively impact the cognitive development of children.
