Anti-discrimination policy
Anti means that you are against something.
Discrimination is being treated badly or unfairly because you are different. Disabled people still receive a lot of discrimination.
So anti-discrimination policy means rules to stop discrimination against disabled people.

An association is a group of people or organisations joined together by the same aim.
 
Community
A community is a group of people living in the same area.
 
Conferences
A conference is a large meeting.
 
Democratic
This means that our members vote on how the EASPD is run.
 
European Social Policy
Social Policy is laws and guidelines that make sure people can live full lives in their community.
It includes rules about:

  • benefits
  • housing
  • social services
  • health.

European Union
The European Union is a group of countries whose governments work together.
 
Funding
Funding is money that organisations can get to help them do their work.
 
Forums
A forum is a meeting where everyone can speak and share ideas.
 
Inclusion/ Included / Inclusive
Inclusion is important. It means everyone can take part, and everyone has a fair chance.

When disabled people live in institutions they do not have control over their own lives. They are not free to make their own choices.

A partnership is when people team up to get things done.
 
Person centred technology
Person centred technology or Assistive technology is a piece of equipment or a system that helps disabled people live independently and take part in the community.
For example, a hoist to lift you out of bed. Or a computer to help you speak.
Independent means doing things for yourself and making your own decisions.

Service providers are the people who are paid to run services.

United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD)
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) says that disabled people have the same rights as everyone else. It says what governments should do to make this happen.
